RESEARHCING GENDER, WORK AND TRANSFORMING ORGANIZATIONS: Methodologies, theories and practices

The course participants will study feminist theories, methods and practices focusing on gender, work and transforming organisations in, for example, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Methodologies of studying (and promoting) gender and sexual equality in research and innovation, in and outside of academia, in more or less technically mediated work;
• Tackling the gender paradox – such as, the increasing number of women, and the persistent gender and sexual inequalities in knowledge intensive sector – through action research
• The intersections of femininities and masculinities/gender politics, and enhancing/hindering the promotion of gender and sexual equality in research and innovation sector

This will happen through the discussions of research processes and concrete empirical studies presented by both the course teachers and course participants. Teachers will unpack their studies by presenting their theoretical, methodological and empirical concerns and perceptions, and articulating how their studies have been generated. The course participants will familiarize with these studies beforehand as part of the course readings.

The course participants are invited to bring their own studies into the discussions focusing especially on the connections between theories, methodologies and empirical questions related to the course theme.

The course is meant for Masters Students, Doctoral Students, and Postdoctoral Researchers. The maximum number of all participants is 25.

The maximum of ten doctoral students and post doctoral researchers will have an opportunity to present their (work-in-progress) papers. Papers with research topics related to the course theme are prioritized. These participants will send their papers (max 15 pages) in advance to the organizers, and will have around one-hour time slot to be used for discussing their paper.

 

Credits: Participants get 5-7,5 credits:

5 ECTS for Masters Students: A learning diary (3000 words minimum) based on the lectures and seminars, participants’ papers, and selected readings (400-500 pages), and active participation in the course.

7,5 ECTS are given for active participation, including readings and the course participants’ papers, and a research paper in/after the course (4000-5000 words, graded pass/fail).
